DODEMANDSBUGTEN, CLAVERING ISLAND

DODEMANDSBUGTEN, CLAVERING ISLAND

Clavering Island is named after the British explorer Douglas Clavering who discovered the island whilst in command of RN Griper in 1823. In so doing, he made the last ever recorded meeting with the ancient Thule people of North East Greenland. The hut dates from the 1930s and was erected by the North East Greenland patrols who worked up here.
