Aotearoa – the Land of the Long White Cloud.
I purchased my first digital camera on the journey out to New Zealand in 2002 - a little Fuji FinePix A303. It is a superb little point-and-click which suited my travels very well. Its strengths lay in the compact size and in portraying landscapes. The downsides were limited inbuilt telephoto and moving objects as depressing the shutter button usually took about a second to activate. However, as most of my photography featured landscapes, I was happy with the results you see here.
In addition, I took my Canon EOS 300. This was before the digital version existed and it is quite obvious which photographs were taken on film as even only 11 years later, they show signs of ageing. Unfortunately, at this early stage of working with digital media, and being so far from home, I took advice of reducing the size of my images to e-mail home. As such, whilst they are viewable on this website, and look fine in the slideshow mode, they are not of high enough resolution to replicate. Apart from occasional minor cropping and the resizing, I haven't edited these images in any way at all, so what you see is what I took, which is generally how I prefer to present my photographs.
And as for the country - well, the images tell most of the story, but I cannot rate a place highly enough. Enjoy the pictures, but I urge anyone to try to visit New Zealand if they possibly can.
