Ninety Mile Beach, Northland

Ninety Mile Beach, Northland

Ninety Mile Beach isn't ninety miles long at all - it's nearer 90 kms - but forms a long stretch up the very north west coast of the North Island, almost up to Cape Reinga up at the top. The vast expanse of sand pictured is only visible at low tide and for that reason it is forbidden to drive a hire car up the beach, particularly as the exit routes are through riverbeds. Many vehicles have been stranded over the years, and for this reason, I opted not to drive Beastie Machine up and took a day trip by coach which included a visit to the Far North. To the right of the picture is a different coach. Certainly an experience worth undertaking, but best to leave the driving to the experts!
