GLACIER NEAR SMEERENBURG

GLACIER NEAR SMEERENBURG

Although taken in colour, this photograph has an almost monochrome quality to it. I particularly like the image as it shows how rugged and inhospitable life can be in the Arctic. This was taken just south of our highest point, but despite the sea ice reaching quite far south for that time of year, our captain managed to get us up to 80 degrees North (600 miles from the North Pole) before turning south again.
