IVAN’S YARANGA, GILMIMYL

IVAN’S YARANGA, GILMIMYL

A Yaranga is a traditional tent of the Chukchi people, similar to the Mongolian Yurt. It is sturdily built in an octagonal shape and lined with bearskins and reindeer hides, with ventilation in the roof. Despite this, it is warm, snug and very smoky! Ivan is a Chukchi native who spends his summer salmon fishing in the area, so the Yaranga stays in place whilst he builds up his stock.
